ABSTRACT

In recent decades, the utilization of autopsies as a teaching tool in undergraduate medical education is facing many challenges due to the nature of the medico legal issues. Aside from that, school closures and remote or hybrid learning environments manifested during Covid-19 pandemic have created more challenges for educators. Students are missing out the autopsy-based teaching, which provide various advantages. Moreover, it is difficult to assess students in ways that encourage and empower them to progress. Fortunately, the technology has the potential to provide a virtual museum with an interactive cadaver of several case studies, each with its own history and narrative beside, quizzes and assessments that give educational reasoning, analyze and track the user's learning. The objective of this research is to establish a virtual system for teaching the basis of Forensic medicine to medical students. The system is developed as a web based system, moreover this research uses Agile development approach as the methodology for this system development, the platform is developed to provide a single platform for material, assessment and feedback. Therefore, including 3 stages of the teaching and learning process, the system include scope for educators and learners as well. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

During Covid-19 pandemic, many countries suffered failure of their healthcare system to face challenges of the pandemic although they were recognized as one of the top listed healthcare systems in the world. Why did these recognized healthcare systems fail to face the pandemic and why other systems could do it? This should be studied and known well to be used for future planning of healthcare strategies in case this pandemic to reactivated or any other pandemic to reveal at any time. Mitigation strategies are very important to limit the spread of the pandemic. So, the aim of this study is to review and analyse the mitigation strategies that have been practiced during previous pandemics. This research reviewed the strategy of social distancing, global containment measures, herd immunity and mass testing. It was concluded that, although social distancing is very important in decreasing the spread of epidemic, having specific vaccination is paramount. Meanwhile, it should be remembered that in the absence of proper vaccination, ‘herd immunity’ is the most effective policy to counteract the spread of the disease in the community. On the other hand, herd immunity is a challenging strategy that must be strictly controlled otherwise would be disastrous. In all cases transparency and trust should be built with the public to preserve calmness and compliance to the mitigation measures. © 2020, All India Institute of Medical Sciences. ABSTRACT

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 [SARS-CoV-2] has been identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness in Wuhan, China beginning December 2019. As of 14th July 2020, the pandemic recorded 12,964,809 confirmed cases with 570,288 deaths globally. A thorough review of the clinical characteristics of this infection will help in understanding this widespread but seemingly localizing disease. This research aimed to review the clinical characteristic of Covid-19 including the risk factors, clinical manifestations, laboratory and radiological findings and complications exhibited in Asia. A narrative review was conducted along with 48 research articles published in Scopus journals in 2020 in Asian countries on clinical characteristics of the disease. It was concluded that despite being in the same region, clinical characteristics of COVID-19 varies among the Asian countries. The mortality rate among Asian countries was varied with the competency of public health measures as one of the vital contributing factors. The variable findings on the clinical characteristics may be due to inconsistent quality of methodology in recent researches which was a rapid response to the pandemic. Although these studies are necessary to manage the current global emergency, more high-quality researches are needed to provide a valid and reliable scientific understanding of the disease. © 2020, All India Institute of Medical Sciences. ABSTRACT

During pandemics, many exceptional regulations are planned to facilitate risk management and ensure the safety of the whole community. These exceptional practices during the pandemic situation may evoke some issues with ethical debate. There would be some limitations to the patient’s rights and confidentiality during pandemics. There are many issues in which the healthcare provider should balance between ethical practice and the safety of the whole community. This research aims to highlight and discuss the ethical concerns that may be faced during pandemic management in a trial to find out the most appropriate practice in such times. To answer these dilemmas, literature was reviewed and discussed against the ethical codes. It is concluded that during a pandemic there are specific situational regulations and guidelines to be followed to combat the rapid infection dissemination while maintaining professionalism and satisfaction to both public as well to healthcare-providers. In conclusion, this study believes that there must be a mutual understanding between these two parties that could be mediated by the legislative body or authorities to obtain the most effectiveness of the healthcare system for combating pandemic. © 2020, All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Scientific literatures were reviewed to reach a consensus regarding the discussed issues that include the patients' isolation and quarantine regulations with its implication on patient rights of autonomy and privacy, the regulations for notification and patient tracing with its implication of patient privacy and confidentiality are discussed. This study explores the ethical practices with the aim to reach consensus for an ethical healthcare strategy that can compile with the needed legal regulations in such exceptional circumstances of worldwide endangering pandemic. It was concluded that legal regulations during combat of pandemic should be designed to keep the patient rights with the community safety in same occasion by cooperation between the healthcare workers and the low enforcement authorities.
